GrowFX is a plant modeling and animation plug-in for Autodesk® 3ds Max®.
GrowFX creates broad-leaf, coniferous and palm trees, flowers, ivy and other kinds of foliage. Featuring unique modeling tools, GrowFX lets you create creeping plants, winding themselves around objects of a scene, sheared plants of any shape. Plants may take the shape of any space, winding around objects that surround it.
GrowFX is fully compatible with 3ds Max®. Almost all parameters can be animated, which allows you to create animation of a plant swaying in the wind, animation of plant growth and many other kinds of animation. Moreover, the plug-in gives you an opportunity to edit parameters using MAXScript.
GrowFX Key Features:
1. Creation of realistic trees
GrowFX allows you to create extremely realistic trees thanks to a special technology called Meta mesh. With Meta mesh, it is possible to combine a trunk and branches into a single surface with smooth transitions at the points of contact. Meta mesh can also create tree trunks of any shape.
2. Creation of plants and woodland
A single GrowFX object can be used to create a single plant or group of plants of the same kind using distribution either by specified start points or from the surface of an object.
When distribution from surface is selected, values of some parameters can be controlled by texture maps. For example, you can control density of plants, growth of plants and other parameters.
3. Creation of climbing, trailing plants in GrowFX
The direction modifier "Object reaction direction" lets you create any kind of climbing, trailing plants by making use of the reaction of paths (Reflection / Magnetic) on other objects of a scene. By making use of "Reflection", you can also create plants winding around various objects, or plants in closed spaces.
4. Creation of sheared plants
The direction modifier "Object slice direction" lets you create sheared plants of any shape. You can use default shapes from the set of Exlevel objects: plane, box, sphere, or use a shape of any other object in a scene.
5. Animation in GrowFX
You can animate almost all parameters and create any kind of plant animation, including animated growth of a plant, animated plant in the wind. You can also use impact mechanism "Affects" that can let you use some parameters to influence others. This helps you to avoid additional configuration of animation. For example, you can set dependency of branch length on stem height, as well as dependency of length and width of leaves on branch length. By animating stem height, you can create a fully-fledged animation of plant growth.
6. Speed of display in viewport
Use "Lines" display mode to accelerate display of models as lines in viewport. For paths, which generate many lines, you need to set the value of "Percentage of paths" as low as possible, for example, 5%.
